A Beginners Guide to CBD
Lots of people are now talking about CBD, and it is being suggested to help with things like anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, menopause, MS, arthritis, joint pain, endometriosis, IBS, migraine, essential tremor, epilepsy and Parkinson’s, to name a few.
However, many people are unsure of what CBD is, how it can help them, how much to take or even just what to buy.
If you are looking to try CBD, but still not sure where to start, we have put together this guide to answer many frequently asked questions about CBD and its uses.
What can CBD help with?
CBD is a phytocannabinoid (plant-based) that is often used as a natural way to support your health, but choosing and buying CBD products can be confusing as there are lots of different types, strengths and products available.
Leaf Organics CBD is a health and wellness supplement that can help improve your health and wellbeing. CBD has shown in scientific research to help with mood, hormone production, pain perception and has powerful anti-inflammatory properties.
CBD can help with many health issues such as anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, menopause, MS arthritis, joint pain, endometriosis, IBS, migraine, essential tremor, epilepsy, Parkinson’s and many other conditions.
What is CBD Made From?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is just one of the over 140 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, unlike the notorious THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is non-intoxicating and is used in numerous food supplements and skincare products.
Cannabidiol or CBD is made from industrial hemp which is different to marijuana, biologically and visually they are the same type of plant but grown for different purposes.
According to the US 2018 Farm Bill, to be classed as industrial hemp the THC – Tetrahydrocannabinol content (the bit that gets you high) must not be above 0.3% at cultivation, in the UK it’s even lower 0.2%.
The hemp plants are then passed through a co2 extraction to collect all the beneficial cannabinoids leaving behind a beautiful golden oil we call CBD.
Is CBD legal in The UK?
For CBD to be legal to sell in the U.K. the THC in the final product must not be above 1mg per container.
THC is a controlled substance as per the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001 (MDR 2001). For a CBD product to be sold containing THC (full-spectrum), there must be no more than 1mg of any controlled substance in the final preparation.
Some brands and websites claim that the limit is 0.2% THC, this is a common error which only refers to the amount permitted in legally grown hemp plants. To assure you all the products in the Leaf Organics range fall below 0.1% of THC per container.
How Does CBD Work?
CBD supplements your endocannabinoid system (ECS), the body’s largest neurotransmitter network which affects all aspects of health.
There is still a lot more to learn about how CBD works in the human body, but scientists suggest that CBD produces beneficial effects by interacting with your endocannabinoid system (ECS).
The ECS is a collection of chemical receptors, endocannabinoids (human cannabinoids), and enzymes that work together to keep your body systems in a state of balance. For example, if you get too hot, cold, ill, stressed etc., it goes to work to put things right.
The receptors are present throughout your body but are more concentrated in your central and peripheral nervous systems. Endocannabinoid molecules are produced by your body and support your body to achieve a healthy balanced state call homeostasis.
Regular consumption of Leaf Organics CBD can help to maintain your health and promote stability of all bodily functions, helping achieve homeostasis allowing your body to thrive not survive.
How Can I Take CBD?
There are a few different ways to take CBD, each method has its own unique absorption profile.
Taking CBD sublingually is one of the best ways to maximise absorption of CBD using CBD oil tincture, the oil is absorbed through tissues under the tongue and enters the bloodstream in around 15 minutes.
Topical treatments are a fantastic way to target specific areas of pain and inflammation or treat skin conditions and can be used serval times throughout the day on top of taking CBD orally.
The bath products are another wonderful way to help relax sore and tired muscles.
Finally, we also offer CBD infused tea, so you can enjoy a cup any time during the day.
Many customers use a combination of all products to get the best from CBD.
How Much CBD Should I Take?
New users are recommended to start on a low dose and build up gradually to a standard daily dose of 20–25mg.
It can take up to 6 weeks to see the full effects. Once you have been taking 25mg for a few days keep adding in a few extra drops each day until you find the best dose for you.

How Will CBD Make Me Feel?
The biggest concern that most people have before they take CBD is how will it make me feel. You are not going to get high or have an increased appetite. What you will most likely experience is the positive benefits that CBD has to offer. These can include feeling calmer, reduced anxiety, increased wakefulness, improved sleep and relief from pain and inflammation.
The best place to begin before you take CBD is to decide what you will be using CBD for, e.g. insomnia, chronic pain, arthritis, mood regulation, stress relief, and then go from there.
Next, ensure the company provides third-party test results and these should be available on the website. Leaf Organics Lab results are clearly shown for each product on the website,
You might also want to decide if a full-spectrum or CBD isolate product will best suit your needs and lifestyle.
Once you are ready, start low and go slow. Gradually increase your dose each week as needed.
As always, if you are unsure or have further questions about CBD, feel free to consult with your doctor or specialist. This is important to make sure that CBD can work with any existing medication you may be taking.
