Can CBD Help You Sleep?

CBD is one of the main cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids interact with your endocannabinoid system (ECS) to help your body maintain a state of balance and stability or homeostasis. Some research suggests that CBD can also help you get a better night’s sleep.

CBD and Sleep.

First ensure your sleeping environment is optimal, is it dark quiet and the air temperature cool? Has the consumption of caffeine and alcohol been removed?

Other reasons for poor sleep include,

  • Anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and depression.
  • Pain
  • Medication, which can disturb your sleep-wake cycle.
  • Physical conditions, such as chronic pain and restless leg syndrome.

If your insomnia is caused by any of these factors, CBD may help.

 Anxiety

A paper published in 2019 looked at whether CBD could improve sleep and or reduce anxiety. The study involved 72 subjects, 47 experiencing anxiety and 25 experiencing poor sleep. The subjects were each given 25 milligrams (mg) of CBD in capsule form each day. In the first month, 79.2 per cent of the patients reported lower anxiety levels and 66.7 per cent reported better sleep.
