CBD Oil for Dogs
How Does CBD Affect Dogs?
When it comes to CBD oil for dogs, there’s a lot of information and it’s difficult to know what’s accurate or not. As a pet owner myself, I understand the need to do what’s best for your dog, and everything about CBD oil for dogs.
Currently, there has been no formal study on how CBD affects dogs. What scientists do know is that in all mammals, dogs and humans alike we have an endocannabinoid system.
CBD interact with this system, which helps maintain balance in the body and keeps it in a healthy state.
CBD has been shown to help with mood, hormone production, and pain perception plus it has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. CBD can help with many health issues such as anxiety, arthritis, joint pain, gastric issues, essential tremor, epilepsy, skin issues, and many other conditions for both for humans and pets alike.
One study from 2018 wanted to assess the safety, anti-inflammatory properties, and anti-pain properties of a CBD oil in dogs with osteoarthritis. Researchers gave dogs doses of 2 or 8 milligrams (mg) per kilogram (kg) of body weight.
80% of the dogs showed improvement in their pain and mobility, as measured by two veterinary resources, the canine brief pain inventory, and the Hudson activity scale, this is very encouraging.
CBD Oil for Dogs UK – Advice & Information
Giving any pet CBD in the UK is quite a grey area and is down to the owner if they choose to give their pet CBD or not.
There is no legal “PET” CBD products allowed in the UK even though many are sold every day, companies that sell PET CBD are not compliant as the VMD (Veterinary Medicines Directorate) at the moment do not allow any form of pet CBD. Having said that, more vets are recommending CBD for things like anxiety, arthritis, pain, seizures, and help with general wellbeing.
Ways to give CBD to dogs
CBD for pets comes in many forms, like treats, oils, and creams. But research on the efficacy of each method is sparse.
A Colorado State study from 2018 assessed dogs with epilepsy and found that CBD oil, given orally, was more effective than a cream or gel capsule. However, more research is needed before any conclusions can be made.
If you choose to give your dog CBD we suggest the 500mg or 1000mg of Natural CBD oil. You can add it to their food pop the desired number of drops on a treat or give it to them directly, our dog Dexter loves his CBD oil mixed with almond oil. the other option is to try the gummies that cab be given whole of cut up to to half or quartes.
How much CBD should I give my Dog?
The size of the dog is very important and so we have put together a chart to help you work out how much you should give your dog.
We also suggest splitting the required dose giving half in the morning and a half in the evening. We do understand that can be difficult when giving CBD to smaller dogs when the guidance dose is very low so in that case, just stick to once a day.
Always start on a lower dose and build up gradually.
